On 26th April, DM Thomas Foundation was delighted to cheer on Jon-Paul Reed from Maple Court and Ellen Westarp from Hilton London Metropole, our two intrepid Marathon runners who ran a gruelling 26 miles through London in support of DMTFYP and our local charity partners The Outward Bound Trust.
The results of months of hard work and training paid off as our amazing runners crossed the finishing line of the Virgin Money London Marathon with time to spare. The teams had superb encouragement from family and friends who came from London and Wales to cheer on the team. Over 35,000 runners took part in the event and despite the crowds both our runners finished in under five hours. Even more impressive, neither of them stopped and both ran every step of the 26.2mile course through the capital.
We were very pleased to offer our runners and their supporters a well-deserved drink afterwards at The Trafalgar (and even more impressed that they had the energy!) and our thanks go to the staff at Vista Bar for being so welcoming to our runners. It was a fantastic day and we were very proud to share it with them.
Fundraising continues apace and our runners are raising £1,750 each in order to support the health and education of young people. This year, our partner charity was The Outward Bound Trust. Outward Bound aims to help young people realise their potential through outdoor learning. By creating a supporting and challenging environment, young people can learn about themselves and see clearly, perhaps for the first time, what they might truly be capable of achieving in life.
The Foundation is delighted to have so many runners who support our work with young people. We have space available in Marathons, Half-Marathons, 10K runs and obstacle races all over the country, and you could have one of these places! For more details please email us on email@example.com
