The Trust for Developing Communities (TDC) improves lives through community development work in Brighton and Hove, working with community groups and individuals and supporting funding for projects. The Foundation awarded TDC £934.74 to fund a group visit to Thorpe Park for children who are blind or visually impaired and attend Look Sussex Youth Club.
Meet Louisha and Ola
Louisha and Ola are two of the regular members of the Look Sussex Youth Club for blind and visually impaired young people, both are registered completely blind. The club runs every Wednesday in term time at a youth centre in Moulsecoomb, East Brighton and offers a safe, fun place for young people with visual impairments.
More importantly, it offers young people an opportunity to show them all of the things that they are ABLE to do in spite of the challenges that life has thrown at them. Louisha’s mum said about the project: “It’s a very valuable part of my daughter’s week, she loves coming and has made great friendships. It’s a very much needed club”.
DM Thomas Foundation for Young People has made a huge contribution to the young people who use the project: young people are ABLE to solidify friendships, whilst taking part in new and challenging activities has been such a rewarding experience for all involved. A huge thank you to the Foundation for the support, and for helping our young people to say #IamABLE.
