Children’s Hospice South West provides respite and end of life care to children with life-limiting illnesses and life-threatening conditions via their three children’s hospices in Devon, Bristol and Cornwall. Their holistic approach to care means they support the whole family: mums and dads, well brothers and sisters too. For their families time is precious.
With the support of the DM Thomas Foundation they installed a hydrotherapy spa pool and changing facility at their children’s hospice in Devon. Water can have many therapeutic benefits for children with complex needs, many of whom only have accessible showers at home and are unable to use public pools.
The Copp family have been coming to Little Bridge House for five years with their two life-limited children, William and Lewis, and two well siblings, Oliver and Chloe. Like many other families at Little Bridge House, the Copp family are now ABLE to enjoy time together in the pool creating special family experiences and raising many smiles. William and Lewis are now ABLE to stretch out, float and enjoy the sensory, therapeutic sensation of water. Siblings Oliver and Chloe are now ABLE to go swimming as a family.
“Going swimming with two boys with many additional needs is virtually impossible, so coming to Little Bridge House and being able to use the Jacuzzi is wonderful”.
#IamABLE is supporting over 560 children and parents across Devon every year to swim, stretch and splash.
The Children’s Hospice South West has received over £25,000 in funding from DM Thomas Foundation since 2011.
