The Together Trust is a north west based charity providing services to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society. They support children, young people, vulnerable adults and their families to achieve their full potential in life by providing special education, community based services, residential homes and a fostering service. Their beneficiaries may have physical and/or learning disabilities, communication difficulties, autism, complex health needs, and social, emotional and behavioural needs.
DM Thomas Foundation has awarded Together Trust with £5,164 since 2013. The funds raised have helped to provide outdoor gym equipment for Ashcroft School, a special school catering for young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties. The young people requested the equipment to give them something extra to do during break times, and to use as part of their physical education lessons.
The funds are also being used to help with two other important projects. The first is a garden improvement initiative at Woodlands, a short breaks service for young people with disabilities and complex health needs. Many of the young people are wheelchair users, and cannot currently access a large part of the garden unless the ground is completely dry.
Project Overdale is a bathroom refurbishment in a residential home for young people with disabilities and complex health needs. The existing bathroom at Overdale is in need of a full makeover to improve the levels of comfort and dignity for the children/young people during their personal care routines, and to add a sensory dimension to make it a more pleasurable experience for them.
“Thanks to the DM Foundation, students at Ashcroft are now ABLE to use the gym equipment during break times and as part of their physical education and thoroughly enjoy using this facility. We look forward to completion of the other projects and feel sure that they will improve the experiences of the young people.” Jen Sweeney, Senior Fundraiser, Together Trust
