At the end of 2014 the Foundation was delighted to award Spina Bifida charity SHINE with a grant for £11,848. The money funded a project to create a new character, Bella Bear, who would help children with Spina Bifida understand their condition. We are delighted to be able to share some progress on the project.
The first Bella Bear book has been drafted and is in the final editing stage. The first draft was written by the Shine team comprising educational, health development and marketing communication specialists, to ensure that the developmental objectives concerning Spina Bifida are met through an engaging story. A professional illustrator, Alice Wood, has been commissioned to create a Bella Bear character that young children will love.
A renowned teddy bear producer in England has been found to produce the new Bella Bear toy and help her to complement Shine’s existing Benny Bear. Bella will be a unique little bear, complete with yellow bow and tutu, which will make her extra special. Bella and her book will be ready for the launch of the new Benny and Bella Bear club in 2016. We can’t wait to see her!
