Barbara Foundation The Gambia was founded in 2014 to help improve the quality of life of children in The Gambia. The Foundation believes that investing in the youth of The Gambia means investing in the future of The Gambia.
A key project of the Foundation has been the funding and development of a nursery school in Jiboro. This is a heavily neglected school with over 100 children. The Foundation has contributed in the refurbishment of the buildings, secured the availability of local teachers, provided educational materials and basic learning tools, supplied school uniforms as most parents cannot afford clothes for their children and they introduced a simple breakfast and lunch to all children so they are not hungry during the school day and are able to concentrate better on their lessons. Our Foundation works closely together with the parents and local teachers so that we can help them take their own responsibility in continuing operations in the future. So far the project has been very successful but there is still a lot to do.
A number of factors and poverty prevent parents from sending their children to school but due to the success of the Foundation’s project more parents have found their way to their nursery school and as a result more young children want to attend school in Jiboro.

“This year Barbara Foundation The Gambia was very happy to receive a grant of €1800 from the DM Thomas Foundation. With this money we are ABLE to build an extra classroom and educate more children in Jiboro.”
